Art: What works?
Welcome To Cora’s Corner, where every month I am going to help you with your artwork issues. However this month I’m including production issues.
This month I’m going to discuss; What kind of art is submit-able to Qdigitizing?
Qdigitizing has a wonderful Vector Art and Graphic Design service. However, there is a limitation to what kind of art can be done within our set up and price structure. The general rule of thumb is the better the reference image and description of the customer needs, the better service we can provide. The better the quality and cleaner the image the customer provides, the closer the image can be duplicated.
It’s very helpful if the customer can provide information like what colors are needed, limit of number of colors, name of font (if known), final size of image, etc. Sometimes even with the best image reference given, duplicating the art can only come close. Images consist of 2 types, Vector and Raster. Vector images (object based) usually are fill and/or outlines. Vector images are usually easier to duplicate.
Raster images (pixel based) often are more complicated because they are resolution dependent, can have more details and can have more special effects. All this can make duplicating complicated or near impossible. One of the biggest problems with raster images is starting with a low resolution image (72-96 dpi) and a customer wants the image back at a higher resolution. Once the image is saved at the lower resolution it cannot be restored and resaved at the higher resolution. It will be just a choppy image at a higher resolution. The image would have to be recreated at the higher resolution. Some details would be lost in the process depending on how complicated and detailed the image is in the beginning.
Vector images can be typically be scaled up or down without loss of detail because they are not resolution based. Vectorizing a raster image is a recreation of the image and is also dependent on how complex the original image. Below are examples of what the artists are capable of doing at Qdigitizing. Help us help you. Give Qdigitizing the best starting image to work with and as much info about what you need to help us, help you.
Pay particular attention to the image where a Photograph of President Obama was “vectored” from an image. This image can be handles as a “processed” raster image or as shown here – redrawn for vector art. It is of crucial importance in the world of art for (apparel or hard goods) you to understand the difference in these two processes.
I would like to hear from you about your most pressing issues about art. Your topics may be used in a future issue of this newsletter so if you have questions, please email me at cora.kromer@qdigitizing.com. And please reference this newsletter.
I am looking forward to sharing an exciting journey of discovery into the world of Art.

I’d like to make some shirts for my sister. She works for the state and must wear clothing with the state crest(?)on the them for work. If I send a business card or something with the crest on it, is it legal to digitize and use? I won’t be selling it. Thanks!
L.J.
Hi L.J.,
Strictly speaking it is probably NOT legal. You would need to speak with your Sister to determine what rules her employer might have in place regarding these types of things. Copyright law is very convoluted and it is always best to err on the side of caution.
