Pinterest Advertising

Welcome back to our monthly marketing blog. In the past few months we’ve covered Twitter Advertising, Cross-Promotion, and Ideas for Generating Blog Topics. Today, we will explore Pinterest…

Pinterest is one of the easiest social media platforms to use and many businesses are already using it with great success. What most people don’t know, however, is that they can also take the concept to another level if they are prepared to make a small investment.

Introducing Pinterest Advertising

The use of promoted pins on Pinterest is designed specifically for businesses. Promoted pins work the same way as a regular type of pin, but in addition, your business can pay to ensure that these pins are seen by as many people as possible. Currently, promoted pins can be used by companies based in the US, Canada or the UK.

How can a promoted pin help my business?

A promoted pin can be used to help promote awareness of your brand or service, encourage customer/client engagement and improve the amount of traffic that you get to your website.

Remember that on Pinterest people are actively searching for new ideas and services and this makes them the perfect audience for your needs. By opting to reserve premium inventory on the site you can access the best placements, the right audience and a much wider reach. Studies have shown that those who see the promoted pins have a much greater awareness of new products and are much more likely to buy.

Once you have created your promoted pin, other Pinterest users can then engage with that pin, saving the pin to their own personal Pinterest page, which in turn creates even more awareness. Promoted pins are up to 5% more likely to be saved by others than a standard pin.

Once a visitor has liked a pin and saved it, most people will click on the image (or link associated with the pin), which you can set up to lead to your business. Most businesses will see an immediate boost in website traffic after launching a promoted pins campaign.

Getting started

In order to get started with your promoted pins campaign, you will need to have a Pinterest business account.  The Ads Manager system will not work with a standard account. As with many click-through ad campaigns, there is no minimum spend or set amount.  The amount it will cost will depend upon the type of campaign you want to run.

The Pinterest site has a useful guide to help you get started and plan your campaign. As this is a relatively low-cost site to use, Pinterest advertising may make sense to use as part of a larger marketing strategy. Small businesses in particular can benefit from the inclusion of a promoted pins campaign as it can spread the word about services and products to a wide audience for a relatively small outlay.
