Using ‘Boosted’ Facebook Posts to Help your Business

A boosted post on Facebook is an easy way to get noticed by social media audiences, both your own page’s fans and new fans. Typically, Facebook posts are only seen by 10% of your fan base (or less!). For a small fee, however, posts can be ‘boosted’ so that they appear on the news feeds of more people. The fee associated with ‘boosting’ will vary and depends a great deal on how many people you want to see the post. A minimum of $5 is required.

So how do you boost a Facebook post?

You have the ability to boost any post that you choose that was created after June 21, 2012. All you have to do is go to the bottom right hand corner of the post and click on the ‘boost post’ button. Then you can select who you want to see the post. This could be the people who have liked your page and the people on their friends list or you can select a targeted audience.  This targeted audience can be selected on the basis of gender, location, interest or age. You’ll need to set up a payment source for your boosted posts and this is easy to do with credit cards.

Once you have chosen your audience, you need to determine what your budget is for the boost. There are a number of factors here, including how long you want to keep the post boosted.

Choosing which posts to boost

Once you have decided to use the boosted post system, you need to decide which of your posts you should boost.  It is important to choose posts that have some longevity and that can spread awareness of your company and services at the same time. Consider posts that can promote a particular product or service, encourage visitors to your website or spread awareness of any specific campaigns that are being run by your business.

It is worth taking a second to ensure that the post you want to boost is compliant with the Ad Guidelines published by Facebook. It has to go through an approval process so doing a quick check yourself will give it a better chance of getting approval.

Why Facebook boosted posts?

Upon selecting a target demographic and budget, Facebook will provide you with an estimated audience size. From here, you can tweak your target so that your post is shown to more or less people. Once an individual has liked or commented on your post, it will then be noted on their friends’ news feeds, helping to bring your post to a whole new range of potential customers.

The simplicity of using Facebook boosted posts means that boosting brand awareness is easier than ever and for companies that have sales or special offers it can be worthwhile addition to a marketing strategy.
